2011 In Reflection; Charitable Moments & Retail Madness

eftpos

Our final campaign for 2011 had a nice feel to it, afterall the strategy behind it drew on the gift of giving at a time of year when giving is the spirit of the season.

A million dollars raised for The Salvos was the result of 'the inaugural eftpos Giveback', an integrated campaign through Press, OOH and digital media. Encouraging consumers to use eftpos for their Christmas purchases, the communication journey consisted of several phases including launch, announcement, giveback CTA and thank you.

A nice campaign to finish off the year and support brand values of being honest and fair, brand likeability and identifying with Australian values.

Thank you, eftpos.

Lend Lease

If Spring was a challenge, Summer was the Tour de France. What an epic journey to turn around all the Summer retail and events advertising across 14 projects nationwide in only a few weeks. The departments within the agency pulled together to turn out 12 12pp Retail Catalogues, Press, OOH, POS, Radio and T.V.

With only a very small team we worked through many late nights right up until Christmas, earning the recognition and respect of the company for running such a high-demand and profitable retail account.

It's been hard work but it also makes us stronger. Be rest assured, Autumn will be like a well-planned trip, every possible step thought-through well in advance.

And finally on 2011, it has been a year of great growth and many challenges. As it draws to a close we can look forward to 2012 with the excitement and anticipation of new experience.

Bring on 2012.

The U.K. is calling?

2012 will mark a year of excitement, ambition and adventure.

As we grow and challenge ourselves we strengthen the sharpness of the mind.

We learn not only to survive, but to thrive on the movement of change. To embrace this and view the world in light of its possibilities, rather than its limitations.

Sometimes the most brutal simplicity is the perfect antidote to the complications of what we call everyday life.

Next year marks a year of excitement and change; the opportunity to gain new experiences in all facets of life.

Bring on the new challenges.

M&C Saatchi Work- eftpos Station Domination

In the months preceding July this year my life became consumed by one very big and arguably inescapable campaign.

The media buy: citylights, cross-tracks, digital screens and Station Domination.

As my first Station Domination Campaign it would be fair to say that I did not know what I was in for. It was a bit of a challenge and trying to co-ordinate a tailored Station Domination campaign with a rotation of 13 visuals with H/L and body copy proved to be more than a headache at times.

However, with a strong production team and our thoroughness, assertiveness and client and creative management skills we managed to pull through.

To see it all live was the biggest pat on the back and the appreciation of both the client and our team made every late night, every frustrating moment and every challenge all the more worthwhile.

Campaign Pictures can be viewed in the presentation below- enjoy!

M&C Saatchi 6 Month Review.

So what have I learnt so far?

I have learnt about advertising.
Digital.
Direct.
Press.
OOH.
TV & Radio.

I have learnt about workload.
I managed an eftpos Station Domination campaign. Not just one station, five stations at one time in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. We created over 1,000 Artworks in total in just a few weeks.

We didn't create these just on a strategy of high concentration and repetition either, we tailored the messaging to close vicinity retailers using 16 different visuals in a combination of headlines and body copy.

I developed a new system of delivering material installation instructions. For JCDecaux, what we were proposing to do had not been done before. I spent a lot of time looking at spreadsheets, specs, walking stations, taking photos, drawing maps, planning out locations and then gaining the buy-in of both the creatives and the client. A lot of time and a lot of work. How rewarding to see it all live!

I have learnt about key stakeholders.
These are the key people within the agency who are going to enable you to get the job done. Traffic, Production, Studio, the Creative Director- the key divisions within the agency that you need to have on side to deliver the best result possible (and to get you out of trouble sometimes too!)

6 Months @ M&C and what are the key achievements I have gained?
1.  Promotion to Senior Account Executive
2.  Employee of the Month Award

And yet I am thirsty for so much more; bring on the new challenges.

View the slideshow below to see my key learnings from 6 months at M&C.

Winning My First Award @ M&C

It was a privileged moment when I was brought up in front of the company to be recognised for my dedicated work on new business Lend Lease.

The hours and the workload were immense. The recognition was a moment of simple joy and pride.

The Award, which is chosen based on the number of nominations:

Maurice Minor
Awarded for distinguished brilliance.
This person may have given their all to win a creative award or received outstanding client feedback.
Whatever they have done, it's been brilliant.

Joining the Team at M&C Saatchi Advertising Agency!

To share some news with those who have driven some traffic onto my website and for the people responsible for the 110 views of my Video Resume- mostly friends and family I am sure!

The close of the working week also brought with it the end of my first week as an Account Executive at M&C Saatchi Advertising Agency. While a large Sydney Advertising Agency was always my key goal, the doubts of others had caused me to find myself saying "any advertising or marketing experience would be amazing". But I never lost sight of what I wanted.

This was my plan for success, one step at a time and we'll see how we go.

Favourite Ads: Schwepper... wah?

Schweppes Finds A Touch Of Magic

Anticipation of Joy is proving a strong theme in Australian Advertising with Cadbury's recent Gorilla and Chocolate Scientist Ads and this beautifully captured Water Balloon Ad by Schweppes.

This Ad explores a pure and simple moment and a shared experience of joy and happiness; wouldn't you love to be a part of that? I love the soft colours of the bar scene and the contrasts to the sharp light of the outdoor scenes, for me this Ad is a visual splendour.

Speaking honestly it took a few exposures for me to realise what brand was behind the Ad. Perhaps I would make a more direct correlation if it was promoting a digital camera or printer, based on the quality of the visuals.

The sweet, slow Love-story emotions are a little lost on me; my relationship with fizzy drinks just doesn't run that deep.

However, a beautifully shot Ad, enjoy!

Favourite Ads: Animal Instincts and Football Fever

A Goal of Exclusive Entertainment for Optus and the FIFA World Cup

When Optus decided to launch its campaign around its sponsorship of Football Australia and role as mobile broadcaster of the 2010 FIFA World Cup it was M & C Saatchi who stepped up to meet the brief.

"On paper, the commercial seemed impossible to film," says M&C Saatchi executive creative director Ben Welsh. "The Socceroos, backlit, playing football against a team of incredibly dangerous animals..." (Campaign Brief).

The task was a digital dragon and the result was a high-quality and realistic battlefield. It is not just the dark atmosphere, bright yellow sparks of lighting or the sharp animalistic audio that makes this advertisement both capturing and thrilling, but also our positioning as the viewer. We are both close-up and in the moment with the action and also a curious kid with wide eyes taking in this secret training.

The message: This experience is exclusive and it's personal; be involved with the team you support and have it specifically delivered to You. You need to seek it to experience the thrill and inclusiveness, but it is possible because
"With Optus behind football, anything's possible."

I Love To... Create!

Card-Making Moments

Whatever the occasion,
Whatever name is on the inside;
Open it and find your own
And you can know for certain,
I hold you close within my mind;
For you my friend,
Are worth the time it takes
To create a handmade card of mine.

I Love To... Sketch!

Sketching Secrets

Computer screens cannot capture
The beauty of this art;
So instinctive and so natural,
These lines, they come from the heart.

Finding A Place Online: A Personal Branding Exercise

This is a Powerpoint Presentation I created for a University Unit called Advertising Campaign. A brilliant idea by UWS Lecturer Phil Stubbs to enable us to think of ourselves as a brand; the opportunity to really discover our true passions, as well as to recognise the importance of social and digital media in today's marketing environment.

Come, Come... Down the Rabbit Hole; Films as Social Discourse

This is a Powerpoint Presentation I created for a University Unit called Media Analysis. Key goals were class engagement and the ability to position the film within the social, political, cultural and technological framework; the "media matrix" (Peter Dallow, 2009), within which it exists.

Taking the Antioxidant and Toothpaste Worlds By Storm, Maybe.

This is a Powerpoint Presentation I created for my first-year University Unit called Marketing Principles. In a team of three we devised a marketing strategy for a new toothpaste product; Green Tea Toothpaste.

Genius or just plain gross? The slightly out-there idea served us well.

Be Still, Be Quiet: A Cultural Study of Japan

This is a Powerpoint Presentation I created for a University Unit called Introduction to International Business. The ingredients: four team members, a whole lot of research and 30 minutes to take a room full of students somewhere new.
